Ophthalmologist Susie Drake, MD, Educates Local Providers on Innovative Glaucoma Treatment
June 11, 2025

Dr. Susie Drake, MD, along with Andrew from New World Medical, recently met with optometrists in Watertown and the surrounding communities to discuss and provide education on Micro Invasive Glaucoma Surgery (MIGS). This advanced technique represents a major step forward in glaucoma care, offering patients a less invasive surgical option without the need to travel outside the community.
Glaucoma is the leading cause of irreversible blindness worldwide, often caused by elevated eye pressure that gradually damages peripheral vision. Traditional treatment options include eye drops and laser therapy to lower intraocular pressure. When those methods are no longer effective, more invasive glaucoma surgery is typically required.
MIGS bridges the gap between non-surgical treatments and more complex procedures. It can be performed on its own or in combination with cataract surgery, offering patients a safe and effective alternative.
Dr. Drake is proud to bring this innovative approach to her patients in Watertown.
“MIGS has truly revolutionized the way we approach glaucoma treatment,” said Dr. Drake. “It’s an exciting step forward—giving patients access to a procedure that helps preserve their vision without requiring more invasive surgery. I’m thrilled to offer this cutting-edge option right here in our community.”
