Watertown Regional Medical Center Announces 2018 Mercy Award Winner

April 19, 2018

Watertown Regional Medical Center (WRMC) recently announced that Physical Therapist, Peter Schuch has been recognized as the 2018 Mercy Award winner. The Mercy Award recognizes one employee from each of LifePoint Health’s hospitals who profoundly touches the lives of others and best represents the spirit and values on which the company was founded.

The Mercy Award is an annual recognition program established in 2002 to honor the life and contributions of Scott Mercy, LifePoint’s founding chairman and chief executive officer. The award is considered the highest honor a LifePoint employee can receive.

“At WRMC, we share LifePoint’s commitment to making communities healthier, and we recognize this is supported by the good work and service of our employees both on and off the job,” said Richard Keddington, CEO of WRMC “We are extremely proud to recognize Peter for his efforts on behalf of our patients and our community. He goes above and beyond each and every day to ensure that every person he encounters receives the highest level of care and compassion.”

Peter was nominated by a fellow co-worker for providing care to her daughter after a difficult surgery that left her permanently disabled.  The care went well beyond physical therapy.  He provided emotional understanding, support and kindness during a time when it was much needed.  In fact, Peter went as far as to write a college recommendation letter, which isn’t in his job description. Peter also volunteers his time at his church, offering blood pressure screenings after Sunday services and other church sponsored events.

Each hospital winner, including Peter, will be considered for LifePoint’s 2018 company-wide Mercy Award. The company-wide winner will be announced this summer and will be honored at a special celebration in Nashville, Tenn., in August, along with all other hospital winners.
