Lisa Ruder, RN
Nurse Navigator (Heart & Vascular Clinic)

What is your official Title?
Heart & Vascular Nurse Navigator (RN). I work with Heart & Vascular Clinic patients to help them understand their disease or condition and educate them on medications, pre- and post- procedure care and follow-up visits. I also work with heart failure patients in the hospital.

How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
This April will be my 20th anniversary at Watertown Regional Medical Center. I started out as a pool RN in the Inpatient Center because of the flexiblity it provided my family. I transitioned to the Heart and Vascular unit the first year we started that service line.

What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
It’s not just a place you go to work, this is my work family. I enjoy that you get to know your co-workers across the entire organization and you get to know your patients because it's not a "one and done," often times you end up taking care of them for years.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
From the time I was a little girl I wanted to be a nurse. I can’t tell you why but that’s always what I wanted to do.

What would you say to somebody wanting to get into your profession?
You have to do this for the right reasons and really want to help people. There is nothing more rewarding than being able to help people when they need you or when they are feeling their worst.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
I enjoy spending time with my family and crafting. I mostly work with paper and enjoy making cards. I also like to bake.

What is your favorite place in the Watertown area?
I love taking my grandkids to all of the great parks in Watertown.

What does working for a ‘Top 100 Rural and Community Hospital’ mean to you?
I feel proud to work for a hospital that has the right values and puts patients first. It’s also great to have a resource like WRMC in the community where I live. It makes me take extra pride in what I’m doing.

Why do you believe patients can Count on Watertown Regional Medical Center for quality care?
Patients aren’t just a number here. We provide a quality of care you and your family can count on. We also provide a high-level of care by bringing in specialists and other providers that you don’t always see at other rural & community hospitals. This makes it so you don't have to travel to the 'big city' to get the care you need and deserve.

From a personal standpoint, I know and trust my co-workers across the organization so when my patients need care in other departments, I can help transition their care to co-workers and reassure the patients they are in the best hands.

What is one thing you’re doing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?
I got my COVID-19 vaccine!
