Leo Tuhy, EVS

What is your official Title?
I work in Environmental Services, most days I am cleaning and sanitizing the Emergency Department and Day Surgery.

How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
I’ve been with Watertown Regional Medical Center for a little over 1 year. I started at WRMC about the same time COVID-19 started. It was definetly an interesting (and important) time to start working at a hospital, especially in Environmental Services .

What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
I enjoy working with the nurses and doctors. I enjoy seeing what they do on a daily basis, the quality of care they provide is amazing.

What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
It’s an important job. When you are in a hospital, it’s important to have everything clean and sanitized to keep our patients and employees safe. Whatever the doctors and nurses touch, they need to know are cleaned so they don’t have to worry about it. Patients who arrive in our facility need to know they are walking into a clean environment to get care.

What would you say to somebody wanting to get into your profession?
You have to be self motivated to get the job done. Make sure you are keeping busy, there are constantly new things to clean, sanitize, and straighten. You have to keep going and be able to do the best you can everyday or the doctors and nurses won't be able to do their jobs. At the end of the day, it's also a rewarding job because you get to know you played a role in helping someone get better.

What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
Because of COVID-19, everything I used to do has been turned on it’s head. When the weather is nice, I like to be outdoors and go hiking and camping. When it’s winter, I usually stay indoors.

What is your favorite place in the Watertown area?
I enjoy frisbee golfing at the Rock River Disc Golf Course by the high school.

Why do you believe patients can Count on Watertown Regional Medical Center for quality care?
From what I’ve seen and heard from people here, it’s a clean and well taken care of hospital. When patients arrive for care, they can trust that they are entering a clean and sanitized environment and will be treated by outstanding doctors and nurses.

What is one thing you’re doing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?
Wearing a mask and social distancing.
