What is your official Title?
Registered Nurse in Ambulatory/Day Surgery. I help prep patients for procedures and recover them before they head home.
How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been a nurse with Watertown Regional Medical Center for four years. I started out in the ICU and worked there for a little over a year but switched to day surgery for the flexibility and family reasons. When called upon, I will still help in the ICU, I enjoy being flexible and helping out where needed.
What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
My co-workers and my patients. In the healthcare field you are with your co-workers a lot and at times, see them more than your family. It’s nice to have the opportunity to work with people you can call friends. As for my patients, I enjoy being able to help people and make them feel more comfortable by talking and guiding them through stressful situations.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
Before becoming a nurse, I was a CNA for five years. Being a CNA really drove me to want to become a nurse. I love how caring they are and being able to watch and take in their knowledge and presence got me excited to do the same.
What would you say to somebody wanting to become a nurse?
It’s such a fulfilling profession. It could be something small like showing someone where the bathroom is or larger things like helping a doctor or walking a patient through a procedure to help calm their nervers. I feel like I am making a difference and in some professions you don't always feel that way.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
Spending time with my four kids and husband. My two boys play hockey and my daughter travels a lot to play softball so we are constantly on the move. During COVID, we've had more opportunities to stay home as a family and that has been great too.
What is your favorite place in the Watertown area?
I was born and raised in Watertown so my favorite place to go is my mom’s house with my family to spend time with her.
What is one thing you’re doing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?
I try to advocate and spread awareness for the people who could be affected very negatively by COVID-19. We have to remember there are people who are vulnerable and just because you might be fine, doesn't mean everybody else will be. I remind myself it's not always about me and the bigger picture is there are people who cannot afford to get this.
