At WRMC, Community Comes First
August 2, 2017
By: Dr. Mark Roman, Orthopedic Surgeon, Watertown Regional Medical Center
For the last 7 years, I have had the privilege of practicing medicine at Watertown Regional Medical Center in Orthopedics & Sports Medicine. Through the years, just like any organization, we have experienced a great deal of change including new ownership, new local administration, and the transition from a non-profit to investor-owned.
For much of the spring, our hospital dealt with equipment that led to the postponement of many elective surgeries and procedures, including those in orthopedics and sports medicine. This was a tough time for our patients in need of surgical care, for the physicians who were unable to perform procedures and provide the care that so many of our community members needed, and for the hospital staff and administration who were working endlessly to realize a solution.
Through all of this, one constant remained; our never ending commitment to our community and each other. You are not just patients with a diagnosis and a number. You are our friends, our family, our neighbors, our community. You are the reason we are here.
I am so proud to be part of a team of physicians and nurses who truly enjoy and appreciate each other. We want to see each other succeed and are committed to doing what’s right for our patients. I appreciate that every clinician on our team puts patient’s safety and well-being at the forefront, each and every time.
WRMC has been focused on delivering high-quality, safe and compassionate care. We have experienced tremendous successes in terms of national quality metrics, recently earning a 4-star overall quality rating from the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS). This places us at the top 15% of all hospitals in the U.S., in terms of patient safety and the overall patient experience.
I am particularly proud of our orthopedic and sports medicine team and the care that we provide. In 2016, greater than 91% of our patients said they felt our team was courteous, respectful, felt like we truly listened to their concerns and were compassionate in our care. Feel confident in knowing that our quality is exceptional. All of our surgeons are Board Certified, with both exceptional training and experience. Our quality outcomes for total joint replacement hospital stay, readmission rates and surgical infection over the last 4 years excel compared to the regional and national average. We are proud of these quality measures and continue to strive for perfection.
In closing, if there is one thing that I hope each and every member of our community knows, it is that your safety, care, and wellbeing are our #1 priority – they always have been and always will be. We are proud to serve as your local healthcare team, and we look forward to keeping your care close to home for generations to come.
