Watertown Regional Medical Center Earns ‘A’ Grade for Hospital Safety from Leapfrog Group
The grade, awarded for fall 2025, is Leapfrog's highest national recognition for patient safety.
WATERTOWN, WI (November 13, 2025) – Watertown Regional Medical Center was awarded an “A” Hospital Safety Grade for the third consecutive time by The Leapfrog Group, an independent national nonprofit watchdog focused on patient safety. This grade represents the ninth “A” earned by Watertown Regional Medical Center in the last 12 Leapfrog grading periods. Watertown Regional was one of 16 hospitals in Wisconsin to earn the top grade in Leapfrog’s fall 2025 ratings release.
The Leapfrog Group assigns an “A,” “B,” “C,” “D,” or “F” grade to all general hospitals across the country based on over 30 measures of errors, accidents, injuries, and infections as well as the systems hospitals have in place to prevent them.
“My sincere congratulations to Watertown Regional Medical Center for upholding patient safety standards through thick and thin, achieving an ‘A’ Hospital Safety Grade for three consecutive rounds of the Safety Grade,” said Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group. “Consistently earning an A demonstrates a long-term, organization-wide commitment to putting patient safety first.”
The Leapfrog Hospital Safety Grade is the only hospital ratings program focused exclusively on preventable medical errors, injuries, and infections that can lead to harm or even death. The grading system is peer-reviewed, fully transparent, and free to the public. Grades are updated twice annually, in the fall and spring.
“Earning the prestigious A grade from The Leapfrog Group requires a tremendous focus on providing safe, high-quality care,” said Richard Keddington, CEO of Watertown Regional Medical Center. “Every hospital strives to earn this mark, but only a fraction do so. Our success over the past decade-plus is a testament to the commitment and focus of our team, and we hope it gives patients added confidence in the quality of care they will receive at our hospital.”
The Leapfrog honor is the most recent among a list of positive recognitions for Watertown Regional. In October, three specialty services at Watertown Regional Medical Center earned the prestigious “five-star recipient” designation from Healthgrades, an annual honor that recognizes clinical excellence based on Medicare data. In July, Watertown Regional was one of 100 hospitals included in Becker’s Hospital Review’s 2025 listing of “Great Community Hospitals.” This May, WRMC was one of only two ScionHealth community hospitals to earn the Platinum Award, the highest honor of the parent company’s National Quality Strategy, and in April, Watertown earned the prestigious Leapfrog “A” grade as part of the spring 2025 ratings cycle.
