Watertown Regional Adds Advanced Technology for More Precise Spine Surgery

ExcelsiusHub Navigation from Globus Medical

More than twenty-five patients have now benefited from a new computer-assisted navigation system that gives surgeons a detailed, 3D view during spine procedures.

WATERTOWN, WI – Spine surgeon Dr. Jason Sansone, who is affiliated with Watertown Regional Medical Center, recently completed his 25th surgery using the ExcelsiusHub™ navigation system from Globus Medical. This advanced technology helps surgeons perform spine surgery with greater accuracy and less reliance on traditional X-ray imaging.

The navigation system, recently installed at Watertown Regional Medical Center, provides real-time, three-dimensional images that show the exact position of surgical instruments and implants during the procedure. This added precision supports safer surgeries and helps protect surrounding tissue.

“Spine anatomy is complex, and with traditional techniques, it can be difficult to see important structures,” said Dr. Sansone, orthopedic surgeon and President of Orthopedic & Spine Centers of Wisconsin. “This technology, now available at Watertown Regional Medical Center, allows us to see exactly where our instruments and implants are at all times.”

It also supports minimally invasive techniques, which can mean smaller incisions, shorter hospital stays, and faster recovery for patients.

“Precise navigation helps us work more efficiently and less invasively,” Dr. Sansone said. “That can reduce time in the hospital and help patients return to their normal lives sooner.”

One of Dr. Sansone’s recent patients, Kelsey Olson, says the surgery was life-changing. After living with severe back pain for more than 10 years, she decided to move forward with surgery in December.

“I was shocked,” Olson said. “Why did I wait so long to do this?”

“I’ve cried a lot of happy tears… he really did give me my life back,” she added. “I have a 5-year-old and 2-year-old, and they are getting into skiing and sports, and I was missing out. I got a second chance because of Dr. Sansone.”

In addition to spine care, Watertown Regional Medical Center partners with the Orthopedic & Spine Centers of Wisconsin to offer a full range of orthopedic surgical solutions including foot and ankle, hand and upper extremity, hip, knee, shoulder, and sports medicine.
