What is your official Title?
Sterile Processing Tech. I help sterilize all of the instruments used in surgery.
How long have you been at Watertown Regional Medical Center? Have you always been in the same position?
I have been in the surgical processing department for 1.5 years but started out at Watertown Regional Medical Center years ago as a surgical tech.
What do you enjoy most about working at Watertown Regional Medical Center?
I like what I do and I like the variety of my job. It is fun to anticipate the surgical schedule and be prepared for what they may need throughout the day. You need to look at trends to be prepared for different situations and surgeons.
What was your inspiration for getting into healthcare?
Once I found out there was a Surgical Tech class, I was hooked. I'm thankful for the variety of experiences I've had over the last 25 years, all in the medical field. They have kept it enjoyable for me.
What would you say to somebody wanting to get into your profession?
If you’re interested in the medical field, don’t let it intimidate you. If you are shy when you enter, you'll get comfortable quickly. Always be excited about what you learn along the way, it will help you in the long-run.
What do you enjoy doing when you’re not at work?
I spend a lot of time with my family and really enjoy reading. I specifically enjoy suspense novels and autobiographies. Reading gives me another opportunity to learn.
What is your favorite place in the Watertown area?
Before COVID-19, I really enjoyed being able to go to the Watertown Public Library and read my book or read the newspaper in that environment.
What are you doing to help prevent the spread of COVID-19?
I limit where I go and I wear my mask all of the time. I don’t do what I used to do.
